Learn Arabic with Maha lesson 10

Lesson 10 is teaching about how to express your "want". Slowly by surely we are slowly build up our capability to speak arabic language. Join me to watch the video, and listen to Maha.

We are introduced into two basic phrases.

1. I want to .... ureedu

2. I need to ..... ahtaju ila

It is is interesting to nte that the arabic for I need to is made up of 2 words, ahteeju ila, it is always together. The arabic for I want to is one word ureedu. Please take note that arabic is sensitive to the length of the syllable.

YOU WANT SOMETHING

If you want something, which is a nouns, such as water or food.. this is how you say it..
a. I want water ................ ureedu al-maa'

b. I need water ............... ahtaju ila al-maa'

YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING

If you want to do something, then, the method is different.

The thing that you want to do must be in present tense and we insert the word an before the word.. like in english, we put to. E.g I want to eat.

a. I want to drink ............ ureedu an akul

b. I need to drink ...................... ahtaju ila an akul

Good luck with learning arabic from Maha.

In arabic the nouns are normally divided into two gender grouping, male and female. The basis group is male and to change it to female we normally at addition letter, the ta ة. However not all word follows that simple rule.

lawyer (male) muhamee

lawyer (female) muhameeyah

doctor (m) tobeeb (f) tobeebah

electrician (m) kahrabe'e (f) kahrabee'ya

actor (m) mumaathil (f) mumathilah

worker (m) a'amil (f) a'amilah

driver (m) saa'q (f) sa'aqah

tailor (m) baae'e (f) baae'eh

engineer (m) muhandis (f) muhandisah

manager (m) mudeer (f) mudeerah

carpenter (m) najjar (f) najjarah

student (m) taaleb (f) taalebah

What make it worst for new learner like me is, the above are only for singular, then there is another words for dual of two of them and another for 3 or more, each come with the gender naming.

Learn Arabic from Maha 5

We are learning Arabic with Maha.

Today is about greetings:

The video Link is given below:

The Learnings are on the followings:

How to say...:

1. Assalamu alaikum

It consists of three words,

a. assalamu - mean peace from the root word ... salam
b. ala - is a proposition or haraf .. translated as "on". but it can change depending on the context.
c. kum means you all. It is the plural of ka, however it is used even for a singular or man or woman.

The respond is the reverse. ...wa alaikum assalam
meaning ... and on you is the peace..(too)

Background
It is the muslim teaching, when they meet they have say the 'salam' and shake hand. The salam is a form of prayer, when we say our hope that the other will be in peace.
...to continue..

b. marhaban ...and the answer is ah..lan.

c. sabahul alkhair
It consists of two words .. sabahu and khair
sabah... is morning, rather the early morning

khair is good, in arabic the prefix al, means the, so

alkhair -- the good.

One of the thing that baffle a new learner like me is, the last later of the word can change its sound, like the sabah.. it can be sabahu, sabahi or sabaha, depending on the context.

The rule is complex as there are many factors that govern it.

learn arabic with Maha lesson 6

Today we are on the lesson number 6.

Video: http://youtu.be/UcQw9p0fVk0

The topic of todays lesson is on the name of different countries. Please take note of the following peculiarities:

Secondly, the Arabs may like to change the name, mainly to suitthe language. Arab does not have the letter 'G'.

2. There is the prefix al on all the countries. It does not mean that it the word "the".

3. Arabic does not have a capital letters like the English.

These are some of the countries mentioned in the video:

- China - al-seen
- America - Ameerika
- England - Enkiltra

Muslim Jilbabs For An Elegant Gaze

By defination, Hijab is the barrier. It is no longer foreign to the western people as now, you can see many of the MUslim visitors to the European cities are wearing hijab.

Hijab is suppose to protect the young girl from the wild eyes of men. It is supposed to cover the head, the neck and the breast. Thus when everyone are wearing similar hijabs like in Saudi Arabia, the girl will cease to be the object of attraction to the men.

However, the recent trend has change the outlook, as written by the blogger...

Every women wishes for a exceptional model, which mirrors her personality. And thinking of style for Islamic girl the initial thing that comes to mind is the Muslim hijab. The hijab in Arabic refers to a ‘cover’ or ‘barrier’. The Muslim hijab is essentially a headscarf covering the head and the neck. Whether you wear the hijab to make a political statement, out of religious belief or just for model, they may make you gaze quite wonderful and elegant. They come in a number of styles and colours that make it all the more difficult to select one that suits you the best.

Muslim Hijabs: The Types

The Muslim hijab has been in use since medieval times, and since after that, it has developed into various patterns depending on the culture and region (such as the Kuwaiti hijab additionally, the Pashmina hijab). Though, it basically is of three types:

* The Al Amira: This is basically a two piece veil, consisting of a large head band or a close fitting cap, commonly produced of polyester or cotton, along with a tube like scarf worn over it.

* The Shyla: This is a long and rectangular scarf generally worn by girl in the Gulf countries. It is wrapped over and around the head, and then pinned or tucked at the shoulder.

* The Khimer: The Khimer is generally longer. It is composed of a cape like veil, which often falls down to a little above the waist. It protects the hair, bosom, neck and shoulders, whilst leaving the face open. Muslim female will commonly wear the Khimer while they pray or when they are on the Hajj pilgrimage.

How to Wear a Muslim Hijab

There are a number of ways in which you might wear the hijab; however, most of them share the following standard steps:

1. Place the chosen hijab over your head. Make certain that it is longer on one side, however not as well long, as it might come loose whilst you wear it.

2. Pull one of the edges taut across the forehead a little above the brow line.

3. While you keep holding the edge of the head scarf, tuck it behind the ears and bring the two lengths together at the bottom of your skull.

4. Pinning the two sides of the hijab together behind your skull with a safety pin, bring its two sides to the front of the shoulder in such a manner that they lie over your bosom.

5. Hold the longer end of your hijab, and after that wrap it below the chin for this reason your neck doesn’t show. Make sure that you don’t pull the hijab’s longer side as well hard otherwise you may loosen it.

6. Wrap the longer side around the back of the head.

7. Carry the longer side around the crown and bring it back to the side where you started.

8. Tuck or pin the longer side into the headscarf underneath your chin.

A Glance at The History of Arabic Language

I am interested in the Arabic Language.

There is not many language that are widely spoken today and the text of AD600 are still read and well understood.

I am trying to compare with the English Classic literature. Search the google for the old text, this is what I found..

Beowulf

Complete Old English text as it appears in the Anglo-Saxon Poetic Records edition. From the Labyrinth Library.

This is what the text says...

Beowulf

Verse Indeterminate Saxon

Reading the above, I do not have a clue of what it says, it is as good as a dead language.

I can read the arabic which was written 15 centuries. I have to say that the Arabic must be smarter to be able to make the language comprehensible despite the length of time.

Islamic Head Scarf – Great For The Contemporary Muslim Lady

Islamic head scarf also known as the hijab was designed to cover the head and face of a Muslim woman. Modernists argue that this was done to oppress the women and to remind them that they were the weaker section of the society. However , that is apparently not the factor. The motive behind a head scarf was to express dedication and devotion to the Fantastic Allah.

It has gone through quite a few modifications and shed its conservative image. Although the older and middle-aged lady still prefer to wear dark-colored or dark head scarves, the younger generation prefers to experiment with different models, colours, and designs.

Head scarves might be worn in some different ways. It might be wrapped around the head and permit loose over a shoulders, or it can be placed on the head and wrapped around the face and chin. Nowadays, style designers are creating Islamic head scarves with Swarovski crystals on them. Of course, this raises the price to a convinced extent, though after that again, you can surely splurge a little to gaze good?

If you wear a fashionable Islamic head scarf to your class, rest assured that your classmates will want to know where you got it from. You will see printed in English and Arabic words and phrases and a link, you can click on that you hear these words pronounced by a native speaker. It will take probably you more time to learn Arabic through an online course, but you can study at your own pace. You need to set a time each day to spend on your studies so that you can concentrate on learning the language without interruption.

There are different dialects of the Arabic language, but do not be too concern. Start by learning the literal Arabic, which is included in all the Arab speaking countries. Once that master you the language, you will be able quickly to pick up the various dialects and to make adaptations to your speech. Arabic language is difficult to learn, not because of grammar or pronunciation, but mainly because there are so many words in the Arabic language.

The shape and structure of the language is that you write not only from right to left, but read you right to left. Perhaps the most difficult part of the language for native speakers to adapt to other languages. Your online course in Arabic should start with greetings very simple, such as how to say hello and goodbye. Learning numbers and counting in Arabic are more difficult than other words due to the rules associated with numbers.

Numbers have different spellings according to the sex of the name with which they are used. The feminine form of the number is used with female names, and the male form of the number is used with male names. If you want to say two books, for example, you would not use the word for the number. Instead, you simply use the plural word for books. However, once you use past two numbers, you must use the full form of the number, the more the plural form of the name.

It is likely that your lesson on numbers take you some time to master. How to greet people and introduce yourself is an important lesson to an Arabic online course. It is the way to order a meal in Arabic and ask for directions on the street. This is information that most people just getting started learning the language want to know, that is why it is always part of the early lessons.

Easy or difficult is it to learn Arabic?

1 - Short versus long vowels - you need to develop an ear, while learning Arabic, to recognize the long vowels short. This is not at all slightly. The long vowels take twice the time to say that the short vowels. As long as your ear can not hear the difference you will be struggling with reading, spelling and even speaking. Your ear should be transformed into a "radar" to detect the length of the vowels. No ifs or ands about it!

2 - Light versus heavy letters - English, who wish to learn Arabic, need for straight ears and wake up. English uses only the light sounds that are created in the dental area (mouth and upper throat). However, Arabic uses all these light sounds more fraught with sounds glottal (deep throat region). In the early stages of Arabic learning, it is a question to: Yes, I can create sounds of this part of my body! Later, he comes to create these sounds not only reliable but effortlessly without sounding like you pulled a spoon to scrape your throat! Even if you create "severe" sounds, ironically, these sounds must be heard as soft/hard if you get my drift.

3 - Writing in Arabic — so what are all these funny looking letters? And should I really write from right to left? Yes, you! It is easy to change the reading and writing direction, but it must be a bit of practice to write in Arabic. Personally, I found students does complain do too much, if at all, learning to write the letters and words. It is not that all of the bad. Get on YouTube and watch a video showing "an actual hand moving" writing so you can see what is happening above and below the line and the branch.

4 - Diacritics - now reach us the good things! Diacritics do not exist in the English language and use limited in English and romance languages in the broad sense. But, welcome to Arabic. What are all those seeking funny symbols (about six of them) written above and below most of the letters. Well, if you view some of these diacritics as "additional letters" it could simplify the State of mind. The interesting aspect is however you need to achieve a level of comfort not only read all the letters horizontally, but also the diacritics vertically. Our eyes, such as English, are used to pass a letter to another to complete a Word; but Arab requires that our eyes move from a letter to a sign combining back to a letter again - this practice. Therefore, your eyes are repeatedly travel slightly above and below each letter as you read a Word to capture the diacritics. Quickly, you realize that these diacritics are also important as the classics for the correct pronunciation of a Word. Beginners wrongly treat the diacritics as secondary or read inconsistently. More experienced students will never miss a diacritic.

But here's the thing: diacritics are omitted in texts more Arabs while only retained in Arab language learning material! "What?" say you! You just finished saying how they are important. EH well, English silent letters and many words is written not as they sound. We remember the pronunciation of the word because we have heard. Of same, Arabic is based on phonetic memory and therefore you do not have diacritics so that you can along at any time. If you have a problem with the pronunciation of the word you can find it in the dictionary where diacritics are retained.

5 - A more wide use of possession - sometimes possession in Arabic is used for both names "related" to one another. This is not the case in English. In English, you simply say that has and what is to be owned. Consequently, Arabic has a wider use of the possessive construction.

6 - Active participles instead of verbs in spoken Arabic - Arabic spoken, even much more than the MSA, tends to replace the verb with a verbal noun or an adjective often called active participles. Find a good list of Arabic participles, Active, and begin to learn from them. Wrongly using a verb instead of an asset participates creates an awkward construction, but you will be understood.

7 - Sharing the language with native speakers in General, English native speakers are more accustomed to having their language spoken by speakers non-natives as the Arabs. The maternal years English has become more and more forgiving when the plural s / es is abandoned or words are pronounced incorrectly. English kindergarten tend to be calm as they listen carefully... probably because they know just as many Aboriginal speak the language to English as they do.

Arabic-speaking natives, however, were not in the face every day in three to five individuals of Arab learning. This means that they are simply not used to it. And as with anything that is unfamiliar, it carries the challenge of the unknown. In other words, if you talk to a native Arabic speaker, and your pronunciation and sentence construction is just bad... reassure him that it will survive your Arabic. Usually done with a smile. Arabs have a deep regard for anyone learning their language that they need just to ensure that all is well in the city of broken language.

Once you are aware of the common challenges it gets only easier.

What is so easy on Arabic?

Many factors and none of them can be neglected.

There is no silent letters (which facilitates the spelling), gender is easy to recognize (and therefore it is sufficient to recall the noun and not gender-that makes the big time) and learning new words is intuitive because the root system. A trio of consonants within a Word can fall within the common general meaning - such as "d-r-s can mean a school, teaching and learning."

The challenges and rewards of Arab learning - Cry Now, laugh later

Arabic is one of the major languages of the world, and master's degree in Arabic is a skill that is in high demand. With the importance in the Middle East for the two strategic reasons and for its oil resources, the Western world will continue to have interests and interaction with the region for a long time. But Arabic is not limited to the Arab countries of the Middle East. It is also spoken in North Africa and parts of Eastern Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

It is the official language or the a multiple official languages in 25 countries and 26 if categorize us Israel and the Palestinian Authority as separate entities, which have a total population of 325 million. Arabic-speaking are sought by many companies carrying on the Middle East, by the armed forces and intelligence services. Master of Arabic opens some special career opportunities not open to others, it is interesting to learn Arabic. Not to mention that the people of the Arab world is warm and welcoming and love to communicate. Power to speak their language will transform a good an incredible trip.

Arabic, however, is a challenge to learn. Most people take a blow of eye in Arabic writing and conclude that they could never to learn it. It is, however, not complicated and can be learned easily with a few weeks of constant practice. The pronunciation is more challenging, with Arabic with a number of sounds which are not found in addition to other languages and can be difficult to reproduce and distinguish. These sounds are better learned by imitating a native speaker.

Another challenge of Arab learning is that it is so different from English and other Indo-European languages. As a Semitic language, the Arabic grammar and morphology is very different from what you are probably used to verb tenses work differently, the word order is different, and there are few cognates between English and Arabic. Learn that Arabic is not an occasional case, it really requires some discipline because the huge amount of new concepts and information can be overwhelming.

The biggest challenge is perhaps Arabic diglossia. Diglossia is the use of two distinct varieties of a language by speakers of a language. The language that is an official language throughout the Arab world is Arab modern Standard, which is the official language which is a modern adaptation of the classical Arabic of the Qur'an. This language is used in newspapers, emission information, official and similar speech.

But throughout the Arab world, there are various dialects of Arabic which differ from modern Standard Arabic. These dialects are the native languages of the Arab people. All these dialects developed from classical Arabic, but they may largely differ from each other. In General, more geographical distance between two zones language Arabic, already the dialectal difference. It can be quite a barrier of the impressive language between two native speakers of the Arabic language.

The key to learn Arabic is to learn Arabic modern Standard as a foundation and also learn a spoken dialect. Some people recommend that you learn familiar Egyptian Arabic because it is widely understood due to the prevalence of films and Egyptian television. But I think it is flawed, thinking, because even if you can be understood, you understand not the other person, who will speak in his local dialect. I recommend that you learn the main dialect of the country or region that you are most interested, or have the most interaction with. If you are in the U.S. Army and will install to Iraq, then obviously Arab Iraqi is the best choice.

If you'll be doing aid work in the Westbank, I recommend Palestinian Arabic. If at some point in the future you will be travelling or working in another region of the Arab world, and then Arabic modern Standard to use your Foundation and with a little practice, you should be able to give a sense of the local dialectIf not with jurisdiction, then at least for basic communication. If you are simply skip a trip to an Arabic-speaking countries and do plan on long-term studies or living in the region, and then learn some dialect spoken in this country is probably the best way to go.

Learn Arabic is a challenge on a number of levels. But for those who have a deep interest in the Arabic, Arab world is a fascinating and rewarding language including wonders will motivate you to overcome all these obstacles. For those who want to learn Arabic as a career asset, Arabic is a rare skill which is at the request by various companies and in certain professions. If you have the patience and commitment to acquire skills, it will be worth the effort.
