Course: 1 Topic 3A: ARABIC VERB - AN INTRODUCTION

 1. What is a Verb?.
They are a collection of a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear. They represent past, present and future actions.

2. In Arabic,  verbs are derived from a 3 letter root words .
A root word is the source from which  the other words are derived from.  The root word has a meaning, and the derived words have a connected  or extended meaning.
Example, the root word ك ت ب, means he wrote. So any words relatd to the root have to related to writing. The word based on the root   ك ت ب examples are: مكتب , كتاب , مكتبة , كا تب  

3. The root word is a past tense a male (He)
So a single word will carry a meaning of He did ... example a ka la - أ كل - mean He ate.
